Holiday highlights

Brasov

Surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains and overlooked by Mt Tâmpa, the picturesque city of Brasov is one of the most visited places in Romania. Linked to the legend of the Pied Piper, the town certainly has a storybook quality, with its cobbled streets and pointed turrets. With a relaxed vibe and great café culture, it is the perfect spot from which to explore the surrounding countryside.

Dracula’s Castle

Bran Castle is a medieval fortress on the Transylvanian border, dating back to the 13th century. Situated on the edge of Bran Gorge, it was the inspiration behind Dracula’s Castle in Bram Stoker’s classic novel. Today the castle is open to the public and houses a display of art and furniture collected by Queen Marie during the fortress’s time as a royal residence between 1920 and 1948.

Sighisoara

Sighisoara is a beautifully preserved medieval town set in rolling countryside and a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Wander through the cobbled streets and discover the town’s highlights which include The Church on the Hill and the impressive Clock Tower which dates back to the 13th century. Each day a different wooden figure emerges from the belfry on the stroke of midnight, and a drummer strikes every hour.

Viscri

The traditional Saxon village of Viscri is one of the oldest in all of Transylvania. It is famous for the traditional houses that Prince of Wales bought, restored and converted into guesthouses for tourists. A visit to Viscri is an authentic experience giving a glimpse in to Romania’s rural past.

Fagaras Mountains & Lake Balea

Travel along one of the most spectacular mountain roads in the world, the Transfagarasan Road, into the impressive Fagaras Mountains, commonly known as “The Transylvanian Alps”. This 100 km road was built in the ‘70’s by Dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, as a military road connecting the two Romanian historic provinces of Wallachia and Transylvania and photo stops will be made throughout the journey so you can capture the landscape. The Fagras Mounatins are also home to Lak Balea, a glacier lake which is situated at 2042 metres above sea level.
