The Carpathian Mountains form a circle around the region of Transylvania in central Romania, and are home to one of the largest undisturbed forests in Europe, as well as hundreds of species of flora and fauna, including 60% of the population of European Brown Bears. With a range of terrains and walking trails, it’s the perfect spot to don your walking boots and discover some of the incredible scenery Romania has to offer.
Spend five nights in the charming town of Brasov and, over the course of five walking days, explore some of the breathtaking mountain ranges that make up the Carpathians – the Fagaras Mountains, the Piatra Mare Mountains, the Piatra Craiului Mountains and the Bucegi Mountains.
Trek through alpine meadows, across craggy hilltops and alongside crystalline glacial lakes. Encounter unusual rock formations and rugged canyons, and marvel at magnificent views out across some of Romania’s most impressive landscapes. Of course, no stay in Transylvania would be complete without a visit to the imposing medieval fortress of Dracula’s Castle.
Top off your stay in Romania with two nights in the country’s fascinating capital, Bucharest, where you can explore the historic old town and admire the city’s many 17th & 18th century Orthodox churches, art nouveaux villas and neoclassical palaces.
